Bjorn Nielsen

Inspired by his uncle, Bjorn began his obsession with the guitar at the age of 5. After bashing around on toy guitars and annoying his parents, he finally began serious study of the instrument at 9 years of age with classical guitar lessons.

Soon after, and much to the joy of his parents, he discovered the thrill of the electric guitar and rock music. By 13 he was playing in a hard rock band around the West Island of Montreal, covering classic bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Alice Cooper, Jimmy Hendrix, and a slew of others.

To make extra money after school, Bjorn gave guitar lessons to friends and local kids. Falling under the influence of legendary guitarists such as Randy Rhoads, Yngwie Malmsteen, Ritchie Blackmore, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Pat Metheny, he spent endless hours practicing, jamming, taking lessons and studying music theory.

Bjorn has been teaching guitar in a variety of styles full time for the past 5 years. Previously at the former ‘Retrotown Music’ in Westboro, he has been with us for the past year. When not teaching, Bjorn is working on material with his new jazz band ‘The Revolution’.
