Instructor: Melissa Hucul, Instructor since 2006

Melissa has over 20 years of Early Childhood Education experience. As well as bringing her guitar and vocal experience to the children, Melissa has written music specific to enhance the development of the whole child- physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively. Bearing in mind the preschool child's exuberance, curiosity, and developmental level, we have designed a program that encourages the child to discover and explore his/her musical talents.

Themes:

I Can Make Music...

1. ... With My Body

- Creative use of voice, feet, hands, etc. as a group and individually

- Traditional and modern singing games, acting songs, and finger plays.

2. ... With Instruments

- Exploration of guitar, drums, violin, piano, rhythm sticks, bells, and chimes.

- Creation of instruments out of everyday items.

Like most preschoolers, your child probably already loves music and has favorite songs. This may have happened with little encouragement from you beyond simply playing music on long car trips. But did you know that your preschooler is now at an ideal age to expand his/her musical horizon and ability? Kids who grow up hearing music, singing songs, and moving to the beat are enjoying what experts call a "rich sensory environment." That means that they are exposed to a wide variety of tastes, smells, textures, colours, and sounds. And researchers believe this forges more pathways between the cells in their brains! Musical experience at such an important age can have a positive impact on a child's development. Research shows that kids who are actively involved in music (who play or sing it regularly):

  • Do better in reading and math when they start school
  • Are better able to focus and control their bodies
  • Play better with others and have higher self-esteem
  • Are overall a brighter, happier child

We invite you to join in on the experience of watching your child grow and development through the world of music.
